Final Journal

From week one untill now. This project helps me to open my mind a lot. First of all I don’t interesting in Interactive design at all. I always think that it is very hard to understand. But from every process I have done that proves that I was wrong. Interactive technology is a tool to involve something to represent another thing in the interesting way. Everyone can be a part of this journey.

I didn’t understand what interactive design was in the first time. After week by week, it was more clearly.

As a group project, we choose an idea about typography. Our challenge is how to bring type in to 3D world, make it more interesting, and how to make people realise how importance of type.

We started our challenge by creating a Video. We showed the images of type in everywhere, on everything. At the end of video, questions came up. We were sure this video was a clear message to audience. But in the fast, we were wrong. People didn’t get a real message that we want to send to them. They mentioned how good the video was. No one really answered to our question. 

We haven’t given up our video idea. We still did a second round. This time we made a statement and questions more clearly. But there is no one response. 

Two times we tried to get a feedback from public but it came up with not enough response. We thought this way might not get people involve much. We also found out that everyone has to have an account with youtube before they can make a comment. 

So we turned to survey. But it was not a traditional way. We also though this time we will get more response. But we were wrong again. 

So we did our last thing, which was a walking poster. I was wearing a poster walk from Federation Square to Bourke Street mall. I though it might be someone who came up to talk to us. But I thought wrong. (We thought wrong as well). No one care about type. They just read though and walk pass. 

From many ways to collect the feedback from public and environment, it makes me understand one thing. People don’t care anything. But if there is an interesting stuff come out, they will get involve suddenly.

Week 12

This week everyone has to present in class about what grade he/she give to his/herself. For me, I gave myself Credit because I didn’t speak much in a group. I feel like I didn’t put much effort in a group. But Sandra and Christie didn’t agree. They though I should gave myself Distinction. They appreciated what I done as a group member. As a team mate, I appreciated what Sandra,Christie,and Anthony put effort in every step.

After a class we decided to have a group meeting on Saturday at Chris’s place.

Week 11

We had a group meeting at Chris’s place. We discuss about report. We stated an project outline and delegated to everyone. We planned to meet again next week to update our process. I had to summarize video response and survey result. 

Today I read an archive about “Creating an Interaction Design by Margarete Fuss” (Margarate fuss,2001). This helped me more clearly what I should write in our group’s final report. This article explained in each step in interactive design process, and how to do prototype.

 

Week 10

In class, we shared information that we found, also we showed our personas. We discussed about final project. Then Sandra came up with a “Type House” idea. This idea about invole type to represent sounds. For example, someone knock at the door, then there are types come up. However we still have to come up with another ideas for further discussion.

I found this following video. It was involved LED light to represent a movement. I quite like the idea of movement.

After I went to different video, it helped me understand more what interactive techology can invole to human lifestyle , or environment.

Week 9

After AGIdeas week, we’re back!!

In the meeting, we discusses what we should do next. We mentioned about what we leant in class. Tania mentioned about Prototype, Scenarios, and personas. So we thought personas will us to understand what our target audience need. Also we started discuss what our final project should be. So we started sketches and find some inspiration.

We will meet up again next weekend to share what we found. So we can take a further step more.

After meeting, I did my personas. Her name is Tina,29 yo. 

 

In Class, Blair showed us some cool video. Adobe Interactive Installation is one of my favorite. When people walk by, some graphic came out.

I also found an interesting video. it involed between interactive and music. It helped me to open my mind. That everything can link together. I also posted interesting video in our group’s wiki.

Week 8

AGIdeas week!!  So we don’t have an official class this week. Yeah!! I’m so happy. 

In class, I asked Tania about a blog. I got some feedback from her about my blog.

After class I was browsing Youtube. I found one video. I saw this exhibition last year at QV. I decide to post it in my blog. I still remember how i felt when i was at this exhibition. It was excited, fun and unseen. It was a good experience for me. I never thoguht that interactive design and human,public, and environment can be linked together.

But this exhibition prove that i was wrong.

Week 7

Presentation week!! 

Every group have to present how far process they did untill now. Every group video is very good. There is a group is doing something about transportation card. It is remind me when I was in Hong Kong. There is a card which is a prepaid card. We just scan it! 

So after the end of video presentation, i was talking to one member of that group. I told him that there is something like their idea in Hongkong. It was my first time that I share my experience with someone else. I told him about how the card work and how people use it. 

Back to our video, first we were excited because we ain’t sure that we are on the right track or not. But acter we got a feedback back from Blair, Tania, and others classmate. We were sure that we were on the track. Our feedback was so awesome. 

Let’s celebrate guys!!!! 

A walking Poster

We did a walking poster on weekend. It was so cool. it’s 2 sides poster. At front, Type is here. But at the back, message was “Are you my type?”, anthony’s one was “Type me Up”.

We started walking from Federation Square to Bourke Street Mall. Along the way, everyone looked at us as we were a craze people. They read what pospet said, but only some people came to talk to us. While we were walking pass Town Hall, there were a teenager guy’s group, they showed a quick response to my back poster. They said “Do you want one?” It was so crazy but that is a response. After that We standed in front of Myer store on Bourke street mall. Everyone walked pass. Again they read what poster said, but they didn’t come to talk to us. I heard someone said “Was that a poster?”. In my view, it showed that they read it!. From a few researched we had done.

This poster got a good response that showed People didn’t care much a about Type, but they did read it. So from all information, we will create a prototype that solve this problem.

Week 6

We met at Chris’s place to share what we got from a survey.  We found that people who had a background in design with know what typography was, and important of it. But people who didn’t have a design backgroup thought typography is about typing, font size, and font choice. They was agree that typography important. Because some people can’t communicate without text/type. We asked about where you see typography most, everyone mentioned about book,magazine,billboard,newspaper,brochure,and business card. 

From this response, we still wanted to explore more. So we decided to do a poster but turned it to a waling poster. We planned to walk from Flinder street along to Bourke stree. We might stop every corner to take a photograph of public’s reaction. I and antony were a volunteered. Sandra was a photography this time. It should be good experience.

 

Week5

Our second video on youtube

 

After we posted our second shot video, we didn’t get any response this time. We made another meeting on weekend to discuss what our next step should be. Then we talked about our previous idea from last meeting which was a poster. But we postpone that idea. We thought we might try to do an online survey. So we came up with three questions which were

1. What is typography?

2. Is it important?

3. Where do you see it most?

We all sent email to our friends, friend’s friend, also post it on our Hi5, Facebook,Myspace to get a wild response. We thought this online survey will help us to understand what people thought and also help us to build a prototype to solve their problem.
